Special Projects

From time to time you may have a need to raise funds for a special purchase.  Often our missionaries will raise funds for Bibles, hymnbooks, pews, vehicles, building programs, or assistance for nationals serving in their ministries, among other things.

If you will be raising funds for a special project such as this please contact the Mission Office as soon as you can, preferably in advance.  The Executive Board must vote on any special projects for which funds are received in the Mission Office.

Did you know that there are times when extra funds like this could impact your W-2 amount?  For instance, funds raised for the purchase of a vehicle or land cannot be listed as an expense on your Financial Report, so you would need to claim the income, and then confer with your tax preparer regarding how that expense may affect your personal taxes.  Because of this, there may be a need to adjust your estimated tax payments throughout the year.

We also have an area of our website where we can post special projects for you.  This gives exposure to your need.  When contacting us about the need, please let us know if you would like for us to publish it on the mission website.

Our staff can better serve you when we are aware in advance that you may be expecting funds for a special need.  Thank you for your help in this area of keeping us informed!

 

New Baby

Congratulations to Matt & Nikki Brown on the birth of their baby girl! Julie Nicole Brown was born at 9:12 PM on February 17th (Cambodian time). She weighed a healthy 6 pounds 4 ounces and was 19.7 inches long. Matt & Nikki have been in Cambodia just over a year. Their son, Joshua, is two years old.

 

Family Fellowship Week

If you will be in the United States in June, please be sure to join us for our annual Family Fellowship Week. This year’s meeting will be hosted by Pastor Fred Daniel, Jr., and the members of Brookhaven Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. The meeting will begin with supper on Monday evening, June 15, and will end after the Thursday evening service on June 18. More information will be coming to you soon, but please be sure to mark the dates on your calendar now, and begin making arrangements to join us! Meals and lodging are always provided by the church, so the only cost to you would be your transportation, and a minimal cost for children’s activities.

 

Missionary Housing

Daniel & Linda Draime have a home in Ocala, FL, that they have made available to missionaries and others in Christian service who are on deputation, furlough, or vacation. It is a two bedroom, two bath home, and is fully equipped for a family of four. You may contact them by email at [email protected] for more information.

New Equipment Information

Our Office maintains a database of depreciable equipment purchased by missionaries and included as an expense on their monthly financial reports. Our CPA has informed us that we no longer need to track purchases that are less than $500. Starting with January 2015 financial reports, please use Line 15 of the report to record depreciable equipment of $500 or more. Less expensive equipment can continue to be listed on Line 17 of the report. Thank you for your help with this!

 

Life Insurance

Did you know that most life insurance companies can automatically deny applicants who intend to move outside of the United States? However, most cannot drop you for foreign travel if you have had a policy in place for at least 2 years. Therefore, we encourage all missionaries to obtain a life insurance policy as soon as possible while you are on deputation, so that you will have one in place before leaving for the field.

January Income

During a typical month, we close out the books on the 25th, and any checks received after that date are posted to the following month. Due to receipting requirements, we cannot do this in the month of December. As a result, please be aware that the December support may be higher than normal, while your January support may be lower than normal. Please be sure to plan ahead for this.

 

Housing Allowances for 2015

Housing allowances previously in place have automatically rolled over to the new year. Missionaries who are ordained are eligible to have a housing allowance in place, which can provide certain tax benefits. If you did not have a housing allowance in 2014 and would like to have one for 2015, or if you have questions regarding this, please contact our office.

 

New Excel Template

A new Excel template for the year 2015 will be available during the first week of February. This will give us time to review the need for any possible updates. January financial reports will be due on March 1. Should you wish to complete your report before the new template is available, you are welcome to submit it on the 2014 template.

 

New Mileage Rate

Beginning January 1st, the IRS mileage rate has increased to $0.575 per mile for business/ministry miles. This change will be reflected on the new Excel template for 2015.

New Baby!

Elena Lisa Germano was born to Timothy and Stephanie Germano on November 29. She weighed 7 lb. 13 oz. and was 20.5″ long. The family is doing well and Elena has already been traveling on deputation! The Germanos are on deputation to go to the Dominican Republic.

 

New Engagement!

Nathan Fry and Hannah Joyal were engaged on Christmas Eve! Nathan will soon be returning to Pohnpei, where he will continue to assist Ruth Ann Arthurs with the radio station until the Eibens arrive and are trained. Pray for this couple as they make plans for their future together!

 

New Graduate!

Michael Deatrick completed his missions degree in December from Ambassador Baptist College. Now that his schooling is completed, he and his wife Nora have moved to Missouri, where they will base the remainder of their deputation. They are planning to go to the Solomon Islands.

December Support

Please contact us by December 16 if you would like funds in your account before Christmas.  Final December support distributions will be made on January 12th for all missionaries regardless of their regular pay date.  Contacting us by December 16 will enable us to schedule your funds around bank closings and holiday hours.  Should you have an emergency need after December 19, you may contact our staff at the following numbers:

January Income Totals

Retirement Accounts

WWNTBM currently offers our missionaries the option of participating in a 403(b) Retirement Plan, the non-profit version of a 401(k) plan. We encourage all of our missionaries to participate in some type of retirement planning. If you do not currently have a 403(b) account and would be interested in opening one, please contact our office for a listing of vendors and more information.
Due to IRS regulations, we are required to use a Third Party Administrator (TPA) to handle all 403(b) accounts. The administrative fee is $50.00 per year, which will be deducted from Support each January or February for those who contribute. The TPA assists us by administering our plan and keeping us in compliance with the Department of Labor and IRS codes.

Please note that loans and hardship withdrawals are no longer allowed. Regulations require that individuals inform the Office before taking any distributions of funds or making any changes to their accounts. We need to know in advance in order to avoid our own liability and to help insure that the account holder is provided with the most recent information.

New Missionary

Joel Smothers has recently joined our World Wide family of missionaries.  Joel graduated from the Gulf Coast Bible Institute in 2013.  He is a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Milton, FL, which is pastored by former World Wide Missionary Paul Woody.  Joel served in Honduras on a short-term basis.  His plans are now to begin deputation to go to Brazil, where he will work with Joel and Cynthia Dickens and their family.

 

New Staff Member

Bekah Cmaylo joined our Office Staff on November 3rd.  Bekah is a recent graduate of Ambassador Baptist College, and she also works at the college part time in their financial office. She lives in Lattimore, NC and attends the Bread of Life Baptist Church in Shelby with Pastor Ed Kuykendall.  Bekah is from Williamstown, NY and is the youngest of three siblings.  Her brother, Emil, is married to our World Wide staff member, Laura Cmaylo.  Bekah’s tasks include processing support checks.  She can be reached by email at [email protected].

New Associate

Jim and Patty Bailey have been accepted with World Wide as our newest associate missionaries.  They will be going to Guam in the year 2015 to serve as furlough replacements for the Quinlan family.  Pastor Bailey has served on our Executive Board since 1983.  He has pastored Valley Baptist Church in Edinburg, VA since 1978.  He will be retiring from Valley Baptist Church January 1, 2015. Advisory Board member and current associate Pastor, Chad Estep, will become the pastor at that time.

 

Housing Allowances for 2015

The Executive Board has voted, on recommendation from our CPA, that all Housing Allowances approved for 2014 will automatically roll forward to future years.  Therefore, there is no need to submit a new request for a Housing Allowance, unless you do not currently have one in place, or unless you wish to change the amount of your allowance.  Ordained missionaries are eligible to request a Housing Allowance, which provides tax benefits for funds used for housing related expenses.  If you have any questions regarding this, please contact our Office for more details.

 

Ministry Equipment

World Wide is required to maintain an inventory of all equipment that missionaries have listed on Line 15 of their financial reports.  Please review your records prior to the end of the year, and let us know if you have disposed of or sold any equipment this year so that we can update our records.  Income received from the sale of the equipment will need to be recorded on Line 2 of your financial reports if you previously claimed the purchase as a ministry expense.

New Addition

Congratulations to Jeremy & Esther Lockhart on the birth of Levi Bryan on August 14th.  Levi weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces, and was 20 inches long.  Both mom and baby are doing well!  Levi is the fourth child of the Lockharts, and joins his older siblings Allie (8), Bethany (6), and Judah (5).  The family will be returning to Brazil soon, where they plan to begin a new work with the Schrock family.

 

Housing Allowances

September is a great time to review your Housing Allowance needs, to ensure that you have a high enough allowance to cover your expenses through the remainder of the year.  In October, our Executive Board will be having a meeting.  Should you need to adjust your Housing Allowance for the remainder of 2014, please contact our Office as soon as possible, so that any changes can be voted on in the October meeting.  This is also a good time to begin considering your housing needs for the year 2015.  More information about housing for 2015 will be published in future editions of Headquarter Happenings.

 New Missionaries

Please be in prayer for these new additions to the World Wide family, as they complete survey trips in the near future and then make plans to begin their deputation ministries.

Michael & Honorah Deatrick have recently joined the World Wide family.  The Deatricks are both graduates of Ambassador Baptist College and are from the First Baptist Church of Wayland, MO, where his father, Dan Deatrick, is the pastor.  They are planning to go to the Solomon Islands.

 

John & Sarah Sinskie have also joined the World Wide family.  The Sinskies are both graduates of Pensacola Christian College.  They are from the Trinity Baptist Church in Warrenton, VA, with Pastor Vinton Williams.  Their plan is to be involved in education ministries in the Far East.

 

SecureCloud Account Settings

Did you know that you can input your own settings, so that you can reset your SecureCloud password at anytime?  If you have not already done so, please log into your account by going to https://cloud.wwntbm.com.  Enter your Username and Password.  Click on your name in the upper right corner, then select Personal from the drop-down menu.  This will enable you to change your password, and to enter a default email address in case you forget your password.  We recommend that all missionaries take these steps to ensure the security of their account.

 

Receiving Donations

We recommend that missionaries request that all donors make checks payable to WWNTBM, instead of making checks payable to you as an individual.  This can help to alleviate certain tax complexities which may result if churches make checks payable to the individual.  In addition, please make donors aware of your account number so they can designate your funds appropriately.  If you have questions about this please contact our office.
